Dan Curean works in media starting 1990, as photographer and editor of the weekly NO, then  from 1994 is part of the Public Romanian Television team. Here he is working , as cinematographer, and as well  in the  editorial segment as producer, and documentary filmmaker .
He was trained in Discovery Campus Masterschool 2008 and Aristoteles Workshop 2005.
Part of the teaching staff of the Faculty of Theatre and Television at the UBB since the beginning in 2005. Part off the initiative of the Documentary Filmmaking  Master staff.
In 2012 doctoral thesis with the title Text and image in the mass-media.
Collaborations with some of major broadcasters in Europe and his filmography  includes author documentary  productions  (scenario, directing, photography ) multi-awarded at festivals in the country and Europe.


Research Topics

The image of audio-visual media discourse

forms of image/ forms of representation of reality;
the new identity of the image in the information society
mechanisms of visual perception and its equivalences in the film processes; – theory of the moving image and the means of capturing it
new audiovisual/multisensory forms of expression;
directions of reconfiguration of the audio-visual perceptual framework.

Audio-visual language

communication and audiovisual language;
the psychological component of audiovisual language;
the temporal/spatial dimension of the audiovisual apparatus.

The specifics of non-fiction film

The “Global Screen” and changing cultural references, the role and presence of documentary film in the contemporary communicational landscape;
Fiction and reality. Theoretical outlines and overlaps;
Documentary film specificity and methodological aspects in the creative approach to reality;
Theoretical and practical aspects of documentary film, specific elements of filmic reconstruction of reality;
aesthetics, grammar and cinematographic punctuation specific to documentary;
documentary film aesthetics and stylistics. Observational/participatory/reflective or performative aesthetic polemics;
deontological/ethical issues in non-fiction film practice;
humanism/neo-humanism of the documenting expression.
